Digital Camera: Canon EOS 500D Digital SLR Camera incl EFS 1855 mm IS Lens Kit

I bought this as a replacement for my old Minolta Dynax SLR. I chose the Canon because I wanted to be able to shoot in RAW format and I liked the live view. I had originally intended to get the 1000D, but was seduced by the additional specification and the better resolution display and I have to say it was well worth it. I didn't have a specific use for the HD movie capability, but the extra cost was small enough to be worth trying. I'm just blown away by the lightness and feel, but someone with bigger hands might not be as happy. I'm still going up a steep learning curve, but thoroughly enjoying the experience.

Overall does exactly what i wanted it to. It shoots HD video as well which is awesome and i encountered none of the issues with panning that i've heard about.

Only problem is the lense barrel feels a bit plasticy but other than that it's a great camera.

Just got this after lots of research, not dissapointed it takes fantastic pictures , so life like, i am no pro just amateur and have only played with the preset settings .
you carnt go wrong just buy it.found amazon the best price as well. you may find cheaper but will be imported camera i guess.

This is a very good buy. I'm so impressed with the quality it produces. The sound is amazing although it's only mono and there is unfortunately no audio input port for a microphone. It would also be a good idea to find out that you WILL need either a class 6 or higher memory card to use this camera, it needs a high writing speed. Other than these little problems, it was an excellent buy and if I could buy another I would, then again if I could afford 2 of these then I'd probably end up just buying the 550D or the 5D MkII.

The canon 500D is a brilliant camera. I was on a fishing boat off the Scilly Isles and it was very choppy but on high speed setting took wonderful shots of birds in flight.
On full Auto it is brilliant.
