A Great little camera that takes good shots straight away with enough set ups to keep the semi-pros happy as well. I had one of these stolen in Feb 08 and quickly bought another, even though by then the model was supercided.
Its a metal body the size of credit card and even takes movies, for all those Youtube moments.
I also believe in having a proper viewfinder which this has,
try finding one with another manufacturer !!! Cause in bright sunlight you are in trouble, and you can not see anything on any LCD,dont believe what they tell you in the shops.
Its only 7 mpixals but who needs more, unless you want 20x30 2 posters all the time,
I shoot at 1600x1200 (the next to lowest setting) and get 900 pictures on a 1GB SD card which prints up nicely to 6x4" for my parents.
great great camera. Sadly no longer available unless 2nd hand.

Lens error horror posted on 2009-07-12

I, along with lots of others it seems, was initially impressed with this camera. However, the first one I bought died suddenly and when I sent it to Canon ( under warranty ) they said they would not fix it because of water damage. I had only bought the camera a month or so before and at no stage had it come into contact with water. Fortunately, Amazon did replace the camera for me which was excellent service from their point of view. But, after just over a year, I have had the 'lens error, restart camera' message and the camera has died on me again. Incidentally, I have an old kodak digital camera which I have had for about four years. I have dropped it, broken the front of the lens, carried it loose in a bike bag - and it still works perfectly. Perhaps I should learn from that. No more Canon, back to Kodak.

A wonderful compact digital camera. I can't rate it highly enough.It is small and solidly built. It takes great pictures and video. The controls are easy to access and intuitively arranged. The sound quality on the video is exceptional. It has a very good battery life.
The Canon programmes that come with the camera make it incredibly easy to transfer the images direct to a computer.
This camera travels everywhere everyday with me and it has never let me down. It has withstood being knocked around in my bag because for ease of use I no longer use a camera case.I bought the marginally upgraded ixus 75 for a couple of members of my family. However, I still prefer this one.

Warning: "Lens Error, please restart camera" posted on 2009-06-23

I have now had two IXUS 70 cameras and they both died with a "Lens Error, please restart camera" error.

My first Canon IXUS 70 was dropped (about 1m onto carpet) shortly before the error was seen, so I put the problem down to that. It wasn't covered by the Canon warranty ("Dust in the lens mechanism"), and would have been £109+VAT+p&p to repair. I instead spent the extra £10 to get a new replacement, as I was otherwise impressed by the camera.

Now, this second camera has died with the same "Lens Error, please restart camera" error.

This is clearly a common fault, as proven by a simple web search. Canon deny a faulty design and always seem to avoid free repairs, at least in the UK, by claiming that the camera contains dust or sand particles.

Complex electronics like this will often have small problems, but Canon's attitude on this matter is a disgrace. So, after buying three canon compact cameras in 5 years, I can't recommend that anyone buys one now despite good usability and brilliant picture quality.

I expected more - zooming is not god - far standing objects are not clear on the photo

reaction is weak side of the item

but : compact and CANON

better to buy Lumix - photos are bright and high qlty
