This is my first digital camera, and I spent absolutely ages researching before I decided to take the plunge and purchase this. At first, I was disappointed as I was aware that the image-stabiliser function was not available in this camera, and my photos were coming out slightly blurred sometimes. However, having had it now for a good few years, I can say that this is great. You could spend loads on a more expensive camera with very fancy features, but this is great if you will mainly be using it on special occassions. If you do decide not to purchase this specific camera, make sure you go for a Canon, they are the best.

First off, I have owned this camera for about 2 years! :) And I can safely say It is the best one I have ever owned, and even better from all the other new fangled cameras with 12 or more odd megapixels! Yes I am confident enough to say this! I have owned cameras from a sony to a samsung.

One thing you should know, that megapixels have nothing to do with anything! People always think that just because a camera has more megapixels than the other, that it automatically makes it better. This is WRONG. Yes you do want more than 5 megapixels so that your pictures will be a bit big and clear. But thats all you really need. My friend has a 10 megapixel camera, and when she takes photos, and uploads them to her computer, they dont look clear at all as the camera is trying to fit so much pixels in a small size and so everything looks jagged round the edges. If you only want to take pictures so you can look at them or your computer or print out to keep in a photo album then buying more than 8 megapixels has no point. Unless your a professional photographer and want to blow your pictures up to wall size.

A thing i like about it is the feel it has, you know you have a quality camera in your hands when you hold it. This isint the best about it, but it is a very fine looking camera. Also very strong, I remember a year ago I set it down on a wall, and the wind blew it away some 3 meters away, sure the thing that goes over the lens broke but it still works perfectly from the inside! Any other camera no doubt would have been in two pieces. Not to mention the countless times I have dropped it.

The Photographs. What can I say, the colours of true life perfectly captured, the light expertly handled. Amazing photos every time. If you cant be bothered to fiddle with all the manual settings (say at a party or with friends) Then set it to auto and it takes the amazing photos for you. Of course of the more artistic shots you can change the ISO from 800 to 1600 (all the while it getting grainer - as expected - but this would give it the artistic touch, and as long as the moment is caputered without the flash getting in the way, the quality doesnt matter too much) you can change the focus from macro to infinity, change the exposure, the colours (it has this really neat colour filter thing where you can chose the only colour to appear, while the rest is black and white), and much more. None of the nonsense you get from other cameras. When people use it they always comment on how amazing the photographs always turn out! Im not joking, ive gotten like 1000 comments like this. While other cameras struggle taking photos whithout the flash, this camera takes it in its stride. One problem with the flash: its too strong and makes people look a tad washed out and pale. But does what a flash is supposed to do nonetheless.

The Macro mode is amazing as well. (the mode you set the camera to, to take photographs of things close up) and from it comes a wealth of artistic shot oppurtunities, with the outcomes looking very professional. eg. flowers, eyes, sand, shells, insects, print, closeups of skin ....endless

Sorry but i cannot recommend this camera enough :) And canon is a MUCH better make than sony samsung.... all the big names. Canon is the best. Its better buying a canon and paying more for the same specs... thats my advice :)
Two years and I'm not thinking of replacing this anytime soon :).

HAd this camera for a little while now and i can't fault it. Terrific picture quality and so easy to use. Ideal camera for all my family to enjoy
