A lens hood provides multiple functions: it shades the lens from stray light, improving your contrast and image quality; in inclement weather, it can assist in keeping moisture or wind-blown debris off the lens; and it protects the front barrel from the inevitable impacts against walls, door frames, and other real-life obstacles

| Suppose it works :) posted on 2010-06-16 | I'm a newbie to DSLR photography.
I got carried away and bought one of these for a Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS lens, purely because I thought it looks cool on the lens.
Seems to do the trick. A little bit expensive for a bit of (very good quality) plastic, but still worth it.
It would be nice, if Canon included these with all their lenses and not just their really expensive ones. |
| Works Great posted on 2010-04-22 | | The canon ET-60 Lens hood works very well on the canon 55-250mm f4-5.6 is lens, I have been using it for rally shots in dusty and wet conditions in the forest. Its great protection for your lens and works well with the light. |
| Warninig: it does not fit the EF 70-300mm posted on 2010-03-30 | I know it doesn't say it does in the description, but I chanced it because I needed a hood and this is the original manufacturer's brand; so this is just to warn others, it doesn't fit the EF 70-300mm lens. The hood is a 3 lug fitting and the EF 70-300mm lens only has 2 lugs.
It does however fit the EFS 18-55mm and works well. I knocked it down a star because it's expensive for what it is and a bulky bit of plastic; I wish I'd got something collapsible. It twists on and copes with other filters being attached already, such as UV and Polarizing. Even with my sausage fingers I can get the lens cap on and off with this fitted (just). I just wish it fitted a broader range of canon lenses.

| Excellent ! posted on 2010-02-10 | Fits like a glove and prevents any stray light or droplet from touching the lens.
No vignetting at any focal length on my 75 - 300 mm glass.
Only wish it looked a bit stylish rather than a bottomless pitcher!
